Submit Your Short Film to Reel 13

WNET/Thirteen presents Reel 13 Shorts, a weekly interactive on-line film competition celebrating the best in independent short film. Filmmakers from around the world submit their work for consideration. Each week, three finalists are selected from submissions. Reel 13 viewers vote online for their favorite. Finalists receive a one-year subscription to Vimeo Plus; the winning film receives a $250 prize and is broadcast on Reel 13, Thirteen’s weekly Saturday night presentation of classic and independent features on WNET, the nation’s most-watched public television station.

WHAT IF I AM ACCEPTED?

  • Maximum length of a submission is 8 minutes.
  • All genres of film are considered, including narrative, documentary, animation and experimental.
  • All films must be in English or subtitled in English.
  • Prior to submission the Reel 13 License Agreement must be completed.
  • You must own all rights necessary, including music rights, in order to grant WNET a license to exhibit your film on the Internet and to broadcast your film on Public Television.
  • Films may be submitted by uploading to our submission queue via Vimeo.
  • The deadline for submissions is ongoing.

VOTING PROCESS

  • Finalists’ films are exhibited on WNET’s Reel 13 Shorts website and/or embedded in other websites on the Internet.
  • Short films are hosted on Vimeo, a streaming video platform that offers an embeddable video player, sharing tools, and a built-in user network of filmmakers from across the world.
  • Voting continues each week until Wednesday at 5 p.m. EST.
  • The winning film will be determined by an online viewer voting system. The decision of the online voters is final.
  • The deadline for submissions is ongoing.
  • In order to avoid potential abuse of the voting system, only one vote is possible per IP address. If you are voting from an office or school over a network that shares an IP and are unable to vote, please try again from home or another network.
  • Voting is available over mobile devices with an Internet connection. Video, however, may not be viewable.
  • The top-rated film will be exhibited over the broadcast facilities of WNET and by such other means of distribution as described in the official submission form.
